When the commercial product isn't the right fit
Manufacturers make one strength, in one form, with one set of inactive ingredients. That works until it doesn't — a dose that isn't made, a dye or filler you react to, a tablet a child or an animal won't swallow, a product that's been discontinued or is on national backorder. Compounding is how a pharmacist solves that, working from your clinician's prescription.
We prepare it in Sunnyside under our supervising pharmacist, Natali Malachov, RPh, and bring it to your door anywhere in Astoria at no charge — Ditmars-Steinway, Astoria Heights, Old Astoria, and the blocks along 30th Avenue, Broadway and Steinway Street.
What Astoria prescribers send us
Women's health & menopause
Bioidentical hormone therapy at the dose and in the form your clinician prescribes — creams, gels, troches, capsules and suppositories.
Dermatology
Custom acne, rosacea and hair-loss preparations, combination topicals, and strengths or bases that aren't commercially available.
Veterinary
Flavored liquids, chewable treats and transdermal gels for cats, dogs, birds and reptiles, prescribed by your vet. Astoria's clinics are welcome to call us directly.
Pediatric
Liquid medications in strawberry, bubblegum and grape, and dosage forms a child will actually take, made to a pediatrician's prescription.
Pain management
Topical and transdermal preparations applied where the pain is, as an alternative to an oral medication when your prescriber thinks it fits.
Shortages & discontinued drugs
When a product is on national backorder or has been pulled from the market, a compounded preparation is often the way to keep a patient on therapy.
For Astoria practices
If you write prescriptions in Astoria and you've been sending compounding out of the borough, we're closer. Call us before you write and we'll talk through the base, strength and dosage form; send electronically, or fax (718) 937-1884. We deliver the finished preparation to your patient's home anywhere in New York State, free — so a compounded medication doesn't become another trip they have to make.
